The Portuguese registry (FCCN) has announced new registration requirements for .PT.

Under the new policy, domain names directly under .PT may be registered by all individual or corporate entities following the first-come, first served principle. So far domain names directly under .PT are only available for companies, public and private institutions, registered business persons, independent professionals and trademark owners.

The new .PT registration rules will come into force on March 1, 2012 with a "Sunrise period" of 60 days. This "Sunrise period" is the last opportunity for above mentioned entities to register their name / trademark as a .PT web address before the registration of .PT domain names will be opened to the general public.

During the Sunrise period, further rights will be accepted. These may be registered in Portugal or abroad. The registry will accept all fully constituted rights; applications for registration of rights will not be accepted. FCCN will request proof where necessary, which must be provided within 48
hours after notification.

The newly accepted rights for individual persons include:

  • Sole proprietorship establishment

  • Brand (mixed or verbal)

  • Name of establishment (mixed or verbal)

  • Logo

  • Artistic name

  • Professional name

etc.

The newly accepted rights for collective entities include:

  • Trademarks (mixed or verbal - right doesn't have to be extended to Portugal)

  • Name of establishment (mixed or verbal)

  • Logo

  • Artistic name

  • Publication Name (newspapers, magazines)

etc.

Please find more information on the accepted Sunrise rights here:
https://www.dns.pt/en/periodo-de-sunrise

The parameter X-PT-REGISTRATION-BASIS = 6B (meaning "coincides with the applied / registered brand") will no longer exist as of March 1. It will be replaced by the parameter X-PT-REGISTRATION-BASIS = 7A (meaning: "coincides with constituted right owned by the applicant"). The parameter X-PT-REGIS-TRATION-BASIS = 6A ("coincides with the organization name, abbreviation or acronym of the domain holder - organization) will be maintained.

In the event of a dispute over a Sunrise domain name, the applicant of a domain name and the .PT registry agree to turn to voluntary institutionalised arbitration (arbitration center: ARBITRARE. The arbitration procedure consists of an extra-judicial mechanism for resolving disputes.

Please use the following command for Sunrise applications:

[COMMAND]
command = AddDomain
domain = yourdomain.pt
...
X-PT-OWNER-IDENTIFICATION = ...
X-PT-TECH-IDENTIFICATION = ...
X-PT-LEGITIMACY = ...
X-PT-REGISTRATION-BASIS = 7A
X-PT-BRAND-DATE = YYYY-MM-DD (for trademark registrations)
X-PT-BRAND-NUMBER = ... (for trademark registrations)
X-PT-BRAND-WAY-REGISTRY = ... (for trademark registrations)
EOF

The liberalization of .PT domains will fully apply as of May 1, 2012. As of this date, the following parameters will be inapplicable for registrations directly under .PT:

X-PT-LEGITIMACY, X-PT-REGISTRATION-BASIS as well as all additional parameters for trademark registrations.

The parameters X-PT-OWNER-IDENTIFICATION (Fiscal ID - VAT number of the owner person or company) as well as X-PT-TECH-IDENTIFICATION (Fiscal ID - VAT number of the technical contact - person or company) still have to be specified for the registration.

EuropeanNIC will accept pre-registrations for the liberalization of the .PT registration on May 1 as of March 12, 2012.

Please use the following command for your pre-registrations:

[COMMAND]
command = AddDomainApplication
domain = yourdomain.pt
...
X-PT-OWNER-IDENTIFICATION = ...
X-PT-TECH-IDENTIFICATION = ...
EOF

The regular registration prices will apply to the pre-registrations for the .PT liberalization.

Change of redemption period for .MS

08.03.2012 08:48

The redemption Period for deleted .MS domains changed to 20 days. .MS is the country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) of Montserrat. During the redemption period you may restore the domain name. If a domain is restored, it will enter the registered status with a registration period of one year. It will be included into the zone file with the associated host objects that were used before entering the redemption period. If a domain name passes the 20 days of redemption period it will enter the pending delete period and can no longer be restored.

As of now, the EuropeanNIC nameservers support the IPv6 protocol besides the IPv4 protocol. With the additional IPv6 infrastructure, EuropeanNIC is prepared for the transition to the IPv6 address space. For customers, there are no changes.

IPv6 stands for Internet Protocol Version 6 and comprises approximately 340 sextillions (with 39 zeros) possible addresses. On February 1, 2011 the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) announced the delegation of the last free IPv4 networks. IPv4 is the predecessor protocol to IPv6. The transition from IPv4 to IPv6 will take place fluently: The time frame in which both versions will be used in parallel, is estimated to take up to several years.

As of April 15 ICANN's "Whois Data Reminder Policy" (WDRP) will apply for the TLD .US. As of this date, registrars / resellers are required to remind the owners of domains at least once a year to verify their WHOIS data as part of the WDRP commitment.

Our WDRP service covers this obligation. In addition to the standardized WDRP email template we offer you the possibility to customize this template: You can add your own return email address and website URL to the emails that are sent out to the domain owners through the EuropeanNIC system.

Manual:

Please go to "Account" -> "Registrar Data" in the web interface and scroll to the bottom of the form.

There you will find the heading "ICANN Whois Data Reminder Policy" where you can enter the appropriate data. Please enter a specific return email address into the box "WDRP Email Sender". If this value is not defined or if the email address is invalid, the email address "do_not_reply@whoisreminder.info" is used by default.
Please enter the desired web page URL mentioned in the WDRP email into the box "WDRP Email URL"

Upon request, we are happy to integrate your own email template into our system. However, this template must fulfill the ICANN guidelines. For this service we have to charge a one-time setup fee of 75.00 USD. Please contact our support team for assistance and further information.

If you prefer an in-house solution for sending the WDRP reminders, please contact our support team as well. Please make sure to send your WDRP emails in copy (BCC, blind carbon copy) to "icannwdrp@europeannic.eu"

On  May 1, 2012 Nominet will be introducing one-year and multi-year registration periods so that .UK domain names can be registered and renewed for between 1 and 10 years. Under the new multi-year registration options, single year registrations will be more expensive. The price for 2-year registrations will remain the same as before.

Domains can be renewed at any point as long as the additional years added to the domain do not take the total registration period over 10 years.

We will inform you on further details about the introduction of .UK multi-year registrations soon.

We are happy to announce the introduction of the fulfillment ccTLDs .COM.TR (Turkey), .IE (Ireland) and .IS (Iceland) in February.

Fulfillment TLDs are registered through a manual registration process that might involve documents, depending on respective registry regulations. Therefore automated real-time registrations and real-time updates are not available for these domains. Furthermore, updates might cause additonal costs.

The TLDs  .COM.TR, .IE and .IS can be activated in the web interface (Account -> Zones & Prices). Please refer to the relevant registration requirements in the TLD Appendix.

  • .COM.TR (Turkey):

Registration term: 1-5 years

A .COM.TR domain can be registered by individuals and organizations involved in commercial activities. Foreign applicants must prove business activity in Turkey or have a business relation with a company located in Turkey (documents required such as franchising / distribution agreement, invoices, etc.).
The domain name must match the company or trademark name. Individuals can apply for .COM.TR domains names following the pattern "name-surname.COM.TR".

  • .IE (Ireland):

Registration term: 1 year

Any organization with business in Ireland can register an .IE domain name. Applicants who are not situated in the 32 counties of Ireland must demonstrate a real and substantive connection with Ireland (with the exception of those applying with a registered Community Trademark). Special documents are required and have to be provided to our fulfillment team.

  • .IS (Iceland):

Registration term: 1 year

.IS domain names can be used and registered by anyone or any corporation. Restrictions: Name servers must be pre-configured and registered with ISNIC.

EuropeanNIC offers a trustee service for all AFNIC TLDs to registrants outside the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The trustee service is available for: .FR (France), .RE (Reunion), .WF (Wallis and Futuna), .TF (French Southern and Antarctic territories), .PM (St. Pierre and Miquelon) and .YT (Mayotte).

Please be aware that .WF, .TF, .RE, .PM and .YT registrations are NOT open to natural persons.

Both owner and admin contact require a local address within the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland. If one of the contacts has no local address, you may use our trustee service for both contacts; the trustee service cannot be used only for one of the two contacts.

Please use below parameter together with the AddDomain command to activate the trustee solution:

[COMMAND]
command=adddomain
...
X-FR-ACCEPT-TRUSTEE-TAC=1
EOF

Please note: For registrations using the trustee service a special trustee agreement applies. The trustee agreement can be found in the web interface, section "Downloads" category "Agreements".

On May 3, 2012 AFNIC will start the launch process for the registration of IDNs (Internationalized Domain Names) under .FR, .RE, .TF, .WF, .PM, and .YT.

The new feature will extend the number of available characters for composing a domain name from currently 37 to 67.

The new IDN characters include:

ß, à, á, â, ã, ä, å, æ, ç, è, é, ê, ë, ì,í, î, ï, ñ, ò, ó, ô, õ, ö, ù, ú, û, ü, ý, ÿ, oe

The launch procedure will involve two phases:

  • May 3 until July 3, 2012: IDN Sunrise (Grandfathering)

Domain holders will have priority in reserving an IDN corresponding to the ASCII version during this phase. If the ASCII equivalent has not yet been registered, it will be possible for the holder to create it at any time, even during the sunrise period.

Please be aware:
The concept of an ASCII-equivalent domain name is applied to the entire domain name (including the extension). A holder of "cafe.fr" is entitled to register "café.fr", but not "café.re".

Sunrise example:
The holder of the domain name "muller-strasse.fr" may file "müller-straße.fr"
The holder can also register "muller-straße.fr" or even "müller-strasse.fr"
since these three IDNs share the same ASCII-equivalent form.

  • As of July 3, 2012: General Availability

The IDN registration will be open according to the "first come, first served" rule.
